What to expect on your student placement…

Posted by Jessica Pryce on November 9th, 2016

Lisa joined us from the University of Central Lancashire in July to start her 48 week student placement during her Events Management degree. Lisa was eased into her work with us as she started on our 30th birthday which meant an afternoon and evening of celebrations, a great way to start her placement!

Four months in and Lisa’s ready to share her placement experience so far and what she’s most looking forward to during the remaining months.

Why choose Glasgows for your student placement?
I knew I wanted to specialise in corporate events for my job when I graduate, so I jumped at the chance of applying for the placement at Glasgows . I wanted to work for a reputable company, whose specialist area was corporate events and were located in Lancashire (for my commute from home), so Glasgows were the perfect match.

What does your day to day role involve at Glasgows?
My days are never the same , so there’s lots of variety to my role. Generally, I have been carrying out venue searches, dealing with registration enquiries for our client events, printing delegate badges, any ad hoc admin tasks that the Directors need doing, producing delegate registration reports, emailing news items and joining instructions for the events.

What has been your favourite part so far?
It’s too hard to pick a favourite part so far, although, I really enjoy reading and hearing the positive feedback from our clients post event. It gives an enormous sense of pride and knowing that all the hard work has been worthwhile. I also love working with everyone at Glasgows. A great team who are all really friendly and approachable.

What are you most looking forward to during your time left at Glasgows?
I’m looking forward to working at the events and being part of the delivery team. It will be good to interact with the delegates and work with the clients in person, who I’ve been in contact with during the months prior to the event.

Any advice for future student placements?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Keep asking questions as it’s all a big learning experience. Make the most of the time you have and learn as much as you can as the time goes quickly.

We’ll be looking for our 2017/18 student placement early next year so be sure to keep an eye out for further details on our website if you’re interested in joining us next summer!
